How to Teach Your Baby to Read

Learning to read at a young age is important for the development of the child. It helps them develop a better understand of their surroundings, allows them to gather information from printed materials, and provides them with a wonderful source of entertainment when they read stories and rhymes. Children develop at different rates, and some children will develop reading skills quicker than other children; however, what's important is that as the parent, you are keenly aware of your child's maturity and reading level to provide them with appropriate books and activities to help them improve.

As parents, you are the most important teacher for your children. You will introduce your child to books and reading. Below we have some tips to help you teach your child to read.

Teach Your Child How to Read Tip #1

Teach your child alphabet letters and sounds at the same time. Studies have shown that children learn best when they are taught the letter names and letter sounds at the same time. In one study, 58 preschool children were randomly assigned to receive instructions in letter names and sounds, letter sound only, or numbers (control group). The results of this study are consistent with past research results in that it found children receiving letter name and sound instruction were most likely to learn the sounds of letters whose names included cues to their sounds. When teaching your child the letter sounds, have them slowly trace the letter, while saying the sound of the letter at the same time. For example, if you were teaching your child the letter "A", you would say:

"The letter A makes the /A/ (ah) sound."

Then have your child say the /A/ sound while tracing the letter with his or her index finger.

Teaching a Child How to Read Tip #2

When teaching your child to read, always emphasize with them that the proper reading order should be from left to right, and top to bottom. To adults, this may seem so basic that anyone should know it. However, our children are not born with the knowledge that printed text should be read from left to right and top to bottom, and this is why you'll sometimes see children reading from right to left instead - because they were never explicitly taught to read from left to right. When teaching your child how to read, always emphasize this point with them.

Teach Your Child How to Read Tip #3

Teach final consonant blends first. Teaching words such "at" and "and" can lead your child directly to learning words that rhyme with these. For example, for "at", you can have:

Lat
Pat
Mat
Cat
Sat
Bat
Spat
Chat

For "and", you can have these rhyming words:

Sand
Band
Land
Hand
Stand
Bland
Brand
Grand
and so on...

You can start teaching blends once your child has learned the sounds of some consonants and short vowel sounds. You don't need to wait until your child has mastered the sounds of all the letters before teaching blends.

Learning to read is a long process, but it doesn't have to be a difficult process. Broken down into intuitive and logical steps, a child as young as two years old can learn to read, and older children can accomplish even more.

How to get pregnant naturally?

Infertility may be broadly defined as the inability to get pregnant after trying for at least one year without using any birth control. In Western countries, infertility affects an estimated 15% of the population. While a part of them are trying to conceive using alternative methods like IVF, others prefer to optimize the chances of getting pregnant naturally. Trying to get pregnant naturally may be very important, since many couples and individuals who are diagnosed with infertility may be able to get pregnant without treatment (and hence should be defined as "subfertile" rather than "infertile").

When trying to get pregnant naturally, the most important factor is to understand the menstrual cycle and the timing of ovulation, which leads to the optimum chances of getting impregnated. Usually, ovulation occurs around the fourteenth day, and hence, to get pregnant naturally, a couple should have as much sexual intercourse as possible between the twelfth and the fifteenth day. Different women have slightly varying menstrual cycles.Hence, to improve the chances of becoming pregnant, it is imperative to study one's periods, and calculate exactly when one ovulates.

Determining the signs of ovulation.

To check for the right timings of ovulation, a woman can do one, or many, of the following things:

. Keep a calendar. Keeping a calendar to chart the days is an easy and effective method to determine the right time to have sexual intercourse.

. Keep a check on vaginal fluids. Mucus discharge from the vagina usually becomes heavier, thinner, clearer and stretchy during ovulation when compared to the usual times.

. Feel the inside of the vagina. During ovulation, the cervix is softer and slightly more open than usual.

. Keep tabs on any sharp pain in the abdomen. Sharp pains in the abdomen, or some slight spotting, may be indicative of ovulation.

. Other physical conditions. Headaches, bloating, breast tenderness and pain may be signs of ovulation.

Having checked for ovulation, there are some other things that an individual can do to increase the chances of getting pregnant naturally. These include lying still for a while after having sexual intercourse, avoiding the bathroom for about thirty minutes after having sexual intercourse, and most importantly, figuring out how many times one should have sexual intercourse.

Men often neglect their own part to play in this whole scenario. The sperms need to be of the correct constitution, correct shape and correct motility too, or else, however fertile the women may be, impregnation does not occur naturally. A way of ensuring that the sperms are undamaged is by wearing boxers instead of briefs. Boxers help in keeping the testicles from overheating and damaging sperms.

For both women and men, the anatomical and hormonal factors are not the only ones to be monitored and corrected. In most cases, failure to conceive may result from an improper diet, undue stress, the use of drugs like alcohol and nicotine, and even environmental factors such as proximity to harmful doses of pesticides. Abstinence from such factors goes a long way in ensuring a pregnancy.

One should always keep in mind that the holistic approach to solving a problem is the optimal way to tackle infertility. Getting regular health checkups, taking supplements to combat existing problem, exercising and stress reduction techniques are only part of the holistic solution to infertility which considers the problem as part of a whole unlike the conventional approach which tackles a specific body organ in its attempt to heal. The holistic approach is not only a surefire way to increase your chances of conception it also guarantees a safe and healthy pregnancy.

What You Need to Know Before You Conceive

The road to conception can be very smooth for some couples, while others find that it can take years before they are able to become pregnant. While there are many factors that can affect successful conception, understanding some basic things can make your journey easier. If you are trying to conceive, here are a few things to keep in mind.

1. Know Your Monthly Cycle. One of the best ways to increase your chances of becoming pregnant is to understand how your monthly cycle works. Every woman is different and in some cases, every cycle is different. Before you conceive, take a few months to chart your cycle from beginning to end. Keep track of the first day of your period and when you ovulate.

This information will help you determine when you are most fertile and when you should be scheduling intercourse. It may not be very romantic to schedule it in, but if you do want to conceive, you have to be able to take advantage of that window of opportunity when it arrives.

2. Predict Your Monthly Ovulation. In order to find that window of opportunity, you have to know when you ovulate. There is a period of five days within each cycle that you are at your most fertile. The three days preceeding ovulation and the day following ovulation. Once you know when this occurs, you can greatly increase the likelihood of fertilization.

Remember that once an egg is released from an ovary, it only has a period of 24 hours when it remains viable. It is vital to make sure that you are having intercourse as close to the date that you ovulate as possible. While you can become pregnant at any time during those five days, it is best to try to time your ovulation and intercourse as closely as possible.

3. Get Healthy Ahead of Time. In order to be at your most fertile, you need to take care of yourself. Start taking prenatal vitamins ahead of time and have yourself looked over by a doctor. If you have noticed any irregularities with your monthly cycles, talk to them about it now. If you have questions about ovulation or learning more about your body, it is important to have these questions answered ahead of time.

Get plenty of rest and practice a healthy lifestyle. Try to remove stress from your life and take good care of your body. You'll be asking it to undergo a great task over the next nine months and you owe it to yourself and your future child to be as healthy as possible.

Successful conception doesn't have to be difficult. Although it can take a healthy couple a year to conceive naturally, by paying attention to this advice, you can increase your chances of becoming pregnant in less time. Remember, if you don't conceive right away, don't get disheartened. Just keep trying and barring any fertility issues you should be able to conceive a happy and healthy baby.

Lelaki ke Perempuan!!

Persoalan mengenai Lelaki atau Perempuan pastinya terlintas kepada pasangan yang bakal bergelar ibu bapa. Malah diawal usia kandungan lagi pastinya masing-masing teruja apakah gerangan kandungan di dalam rahim. Keterujaan ini pastinya memuncak apabila berkunjung ke butik-butik pakaian kanak-kanak ataupun ditanya oleh rakan dan keluarga.

Seiring dengan perkembangan teknologi, mengetahui jantina kandungan bukanlah satu yang mustahil. Melalui pengimbasan ultrasound, jantina kandungan boleh dikenalpasti seawal minggu ke-20. Ditambah lagi dengan teknologi imbasan 3D dan 4D, bukan sahaja jantina malah wajah bayi turut boleh dilihat semasa di dalam kandungan. Isunya ialah bolehkan jantina anak dipilih?

"Milik Allahlah kerajaan langit dan bumi; Dia menciptakan apa yang Dia kehendaki, memberikan anak perempuan kepada siapa yang Dia kehendaki dan memberikan anak lelaki kepada siapa yang Dia kehendaki" - Surah Al-Syura, ayat 49.

 "Sesungguhnya di sisi Allah ilmu tentang hari kiamat; dan dia yang menurunkan hujan dan yang mengetahui apa yang ada di dalam rahim. Dan tiada seorang pun yang dapat mengetahui (dengan pasti) apa yang akan dikerjakan esok" - Surah Luqman, ayat 34.

Berdasarkan firman Allah s.w.t tersebut, jelaslah bahawa ketentuan lelaki atau perempuan adalah ketentuan-Nya. Kita sebagai manusia hanya perlu berusaha dan berikhtiar, yang lain terserahlah kepada-Nya. Persoalannya lagi, adakah usaha yang boleh dilakukan? Jawapannya, Ya!!

Terdapat beberapa amalan yang diperturunkan sebagai tradisi kepada kita dalam usaha mendapatkan anak lelaki ataupun perempuan. Misalnya wanita digalakkan berbaring mengiri ke kanan selepas seks sekiranya mahukan anak lelaki dan sebaliknya. Begitu juga dengan amalan pemakanan iaitu memakan makanan 'sejuk' untuk mendapatkan anak perempuan dan begitulah sebaliknya. 

Malah ada juga yang percaya sekiranya ibu mengandung kerap bermain dan menjaga kanak-kanak lelaki akan mendapat anak lelaki, jika bermain dan menjaga kanak-kanak perempuan maka kandungannya juga perempuan. Berbeza pula dengan masyarakat Cina yang merancang jantina anak melalui waktu, masa dan bulan mengikut kalendar Cina. Sejauh mana kebenarannya hanya Allah yang Maha Mengetahui.

Penjelasan saintifik menyatakan jantina anak di bawa oleh kromosom XY lelaki. Kromosom XY lelaki akan bersenyawa dengan kromosom XX perempuan. Sekiranya kromosom X lelaki bersenyawa dengan kromosom X wanita maka jantinanya ialah XX iaitu perempuan. Sekiranya kromosom Y lelaki yang bersenyama dengan kromosom X wanita maka jantinanya ialah XY iaitu lelaki.

Justeru pendekatan yang boleh diambil oleh pasangan suami isteri dalam menentukan jantina anak ialah dengan mengambil kira faktor XX atau XY ini. Hubungan seks yang dilakukan pada waktu subur wanita (ovulasi) boleh meningkatkan kemungkinan untuk mendapat anak lelaki kerana faktor jangka hayat kromosom Y. Ejakulasi perlulah berlaku dipenghujung faraj (dalam). Harus diingat bahawa kromosom Y lebih survive dalam keadaan beralkali sehubungan itu adalah perlu untuk wanita mencuci farah dengan bahan kurang berasid atau beralkali seperti sabun. Pendekatan ini adalah untuk meningkatkan potensi kromosom Y lelaki bercantum dengan kromosom X perempuan seperti yang dijelaskan di atas.

Selain itu, terdapat juga kaedah rawatan moden untuk mendapatkan jantina anak yang dikehendaki seperti Teknik Ericson dan juga Artificial Insemination. Walaubagaimanapun, teknik-teknik bukanlah semulajadi dan perlu dilakukan di makmal malah memerlukan kos untuk pelaksanaannya.

Pelbagai cara telah diperkenalkan tetapi harus diingat, cara dan kaedah ini hanyalah ikhtiar manusia dan ketentuan adalah milik-Nya. Manusia diwajibkan berusaha untuk mencapai apa yang dihajati dan tidak hanya berserah kepada-Nya. Bersesuaian dengan Firman Allah dalam Surah An-Najm, ayat 39 ;

"Dan bahawasanya seorang manusia tiada memperoleh selain apa yang telah diusahakan."
